I am not interested in this presidential primary dog and pony show nor any of the candidates, but I listened to see if some deeper philosophical insights about "America" and "Americanism" would surface. None did that I could detect.
I am entertaining ideas that many of the "ideals" and "values" regarding "what America is supposed to be" are themselves myths and propaganda and were deliberately and brilliantly pawned off on generations of "Americans" since the founding.
There is this idea that America was founded upon moral principles that were based in "the laws of nature and of nature’s God". Not my God. All these so-called "freedoms" and "liberties" that we are supposed to fondly remember today in order to save them does not ring true to me. ("If you wish to converse with me, define your terms”. Voltaire )
Maybe to accept and tout America as THE ideal has nothing whatsoever to do with God. Americanism orders all one does and thinks to serving Mammon. THAT does not coincide with my belief system. It has been that way from the beginning, I'm beginning to think.
"“The elections keep the rich and powerful in their riches and powers while the everyday slob who fights the wars, pays the taxes, and suffers in the heat, dirt and grime for his daily bread is given the illusion that he and his fellows are the rulers. It’s a great ploy, and what has made it greater is that it has worked for more than 200 years to keep everybody down on the farm and harmless to the vested, to the real, interests, for the most part. And, it’s even a greater accomplishment when you consider that the Americans got most of the world to buy off on their lies, and getting the Pope on their side helps with selling the rot. “ David Wemhoff "Joseph Ratzinger’s American Mind" June 2011 Culture Wars magazine
